About this piece

Blue oval shapes on white cotton — the ovals sit in a scattered arrangement across the cloth, and the blue is clean and even, carrying the cool clarity of a mid-blue without any heaviness. Against the white ground the pattern feels light and open.

Each oval outline was drawn in wax by hand before the fabric was dyed. The inside of each oval stayed protected and white; everything outside absorbed the blue. The result is a pattern that uses negative and positive space simply and well.
