About this piece
Bright yellow ground with white palm shapes — the yellow is warm and open, and the palm leaves fan across the cloth where the wax held the cotton back. In yellow, the palms have a sunny, cheerful quality that the cooler-toned palm designs don't — the colour brings energy rather than calm.
The palm shapes were placed by hand across the full length of the night gown, each leaf at its own angle. Some overlap slightly, some stand apart — the arrangement is loose and organic, and the yellow ground makes the white shapes read with a clarity and brightness that's immediately appealing.
