About this piece
Brown oval shapes across white cotton — warm, open and well-balanced. The brown is a solid mid-tone that fills each oval evenly, and the spacing between the shapes keeps the cloth from feeling crowded. This is an easy, uncomplicated design that works as well by lamplight as by day.
The ovals were drawn in wax as continuous single loops before the brown dye went on. Where each loop closed, the wax line thickened slightly — a small overlap that's visible up close and that marks the start and end of every oval. A small, honest detail.
