About this piece
Deep blue ground with white palm shapes — the blue is cool and full, and the palm leaves appear where the wax held the cotton back from the dye. Against the blue, the white palms are clean and striking, the leaf shapes fanning across the cloth at different angles.
Blue palm batik on a night gown has a different character than the warmer-toned palm versions — the cool blue ground gives the design a quieter, more restful quality that works well as nightwear.
