About this piece
Purple zig zag lines across white cotton — the purple is deep and saturated, and the sharp geometric angles give it an edge that the softer batik designs don't have. Stacked across the full length of the night gown, the zig zag gives the cloth a strong visual rhythm that reads confidently without being loud.
Purple at this depth requires consistent dye absorption to hold the zig zag pattern cleanly, and the evenness of the colour across the cloth reflects that. At the sharp turns of each angle, the wax had to hold without spreading — and mostly it did, with the occasional soft edge at a turn that marks it as hand-drawn rather than printed.
