Pink zig zag lines running across the full length of the kaftan — the pattern moves in sharp, repeating angles that give the cloth an energy that floral and dot designs don't have. The pink is warm and clear, and the white ground between the lines keeps it from feeling heavy.
Drawing a clean zig zag in wax is harder than it looks — each angle has to be sharp and consistent, and the line has to hold without bleeding. Where it did hold, the edges are crisp. Where the wax ran fractionally thin at a turn, the pink crept in just a little — those tiny variations are the signature of the hand.
