About this piece
Purple blocks across white cotton — deep and rich, the purple sits closer to aubergine than lavender and the block shapes carry it across the cloth with a composed, unhurried arrangement. Against the white ground, the colour has presence without weight.
The wax defined each block boundary before the purple went on, and where the tool moved slower or the wax was applied heavier, the dye edge is sharper. The variation in edge quality from block to block is the record of a person working, and it's the quality that makes the cloth interesting.
