About this piece

Bold red stripes running the full length of the kaftan, dense and confident. The colour is deep and even — the kind of red that holds its intensity across a full piece of cloth.

In batik stripes, the wax is laid in parallel lines to protect the ground, then the fabric is dyed and the wax stripped away. What's left is the stripe — sharp where the wax held cleanly, slightly softened at the edges where it gave a little.
