About this piece
Pale yellow washed evenly across the cloth — not a pattern but a colour, and in this case the colour is enough. The yellow is soft and warm, the tone that sits closest to sunlight without becoming overwhelming, and the hand-dyeing gives it a depth that a flat-dyed alternative would miss.
Pastel yellow in batik is harder to land than it looks — the dye concentration has to be precise, too little and it disappears, too much and it tips into mustard. This one sits in the right place, and the cotton carries it well.
