About this piece
Red with a triangle border — the bold red body meets the geometric hem detail in a combination that has a folk-art directness to it. The red is warm and confident, the triangles add a defined lower edge, and the two elements together give the night gown a character that plain pieces don't have.
The border triangles were applied in wax point by point, each one drawn individually in sequence around the hem. In red, the contrast between the body and border is strong — the border sits as a structured finish to the dyed ground, the two elements clearly distinct from each other.
