About this piece
Red diamonds across white cotton — the diamond grid has a precision to it that the batik process then softens. The red is warm and dense, sitting confidently in each shape, and the pointed corners of the diamonds give the pattern a graphic quality that the rounder designs don't have.
Diamond shapes require the wax to turn at sharp angles — and it's at those turns that the process is most honest about itself. Where the angle was sharp and the wax held, the corner is crisp. Where the tool paused or the wax spread slightly, it softened. Both outcomes are visible, both are correct.
