About this piece
Red and orange block shapes in a bold, warm arrangement — the two colours sit close in temperature but read as distinct against each other. The blocks give the design a structured, geometric quality that the shaded and dotted pieces in the range don't have.
The wax boundaries between the red and orange sections were applied in stages, each colour protected while the other was being dyed. Where the two meet at shared edges, the dye concentrations create a third tone — a deepening at the boundary that adds detail to the design without being planned.
