About this piece
Deep red dots on white cotton — vivid and grounding at the same time. The red is warm and rich, scattered in the same quiet dotted arrangement that the batik process creates one mark at a time. Against the white ground it reads boldly, but the dot pattern keeps it easy on the eye.
Night gown or not, the red here has a presence. Each dot held its white centre while the dye did everything around it, and the slight variation in density across the cloth is the honest record of a hand that moved at its own rhythm.
