About this piece
Pink and white circles — fresh and open, the pink is warm and the white gives it room. The circles are placed with an easy spacing that keeps the pattern from crowding the cloth, and the overall effect is light and unhurried.
The white circles are where the cotton was protected before dyeing — each one a small wax boundary that the pink dye respected. At the edges some boundaries held more cleanly than others, and those slight differences across the cloth are what give the pattern its human quality.
